FCTUBE/UBEC TRAIN EDUCATION MANAGERS OF BASIC EDUCATION. By: Patience Ossai

The FCT Universal Basic Education in collaboration with Universal Basic Education Commission organized training for the Education Managers from the six Local Education Authorities in the Federal Capital Territory.

The five- day enlarged  programme which has the theme: increasing UBEB / LGEA Efficiency Delivering Services was conducted at Junior Secondary School Jabi 2.

The resource persons were master trainers from the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration ( NIEPA).

In his address of welcome, the Executive Chairman, FCT Universal Basic Education, Professor Abdullahi Mohammed stated that the Local Education Authorities has the highest number of schools under the Board.

However, they have observed that the LEAs devote to an extent their responsibilities to the Area Councils administration and  he further  maintained that the level of grip the Board has on the LEAs is not as effective as the

level of the control it has in the Junior Secondary Schools.

Hence, Prof. Mohammed called for  synergy that is anchored on responsibility ,due diligence respect and professionalism among good service delivery for effectiveness in Primary schools administration.

He emphasized that the training was organized  specifically to enhance good service delivery in Basic  Education through working together and that it was one of its kinds.

He   informed  the forum that that the Board is resolute ,committed not only in the area of capacity building of staff but is determined that  trainings were  qualitative,  effective, and in tune with 21^st century Service Delivery.

He entreated the consultant and Resource persons to use the experience of professionalism  delivery that will help ensure that staff, the school administrators, and teachers will be able to speak, teach, act and behave like the

21^st century school administrators.

He also enjoined the resource persons to ensure that the training manuals were up to date and inline with global best practices.

He informed the participants that the only thing that can enhance the capacity of an individual is learning. Therefore, they should be prepared for more trainings and that the Board under his watch is doing her best  to ensure

that  training that were yet to take place are covered.

Therefore , he encouraged them to utilized every opportunity to provide the kind of learning and learning environment that the learners need.

The Board's Secretary in His vote of thanks stated that FCT is regarded as a reference point for others to emulate and this can be achieved and sustained with good performance ranking. He urged the participants to pay

attention to what they were taught so that tomorrow, positive change will be seen in schools.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Director , Teacher Development in the Board, Mrs. Jacqueline Amasike affirmed that the training has  highest calibre of staff of the Administration and that NIEPA is very seasoned when it

comes to Education and Planning. Hence her conviction  that the teachers will leave the programme better than they came

The training  sessions were interactive as resource persons took the participants through round of series of brainstorming activities.
